I am a therapist and trainer and the author of two books, The Crowded Nest: Surviving the New Togetherness (2006) and Women of Substance (1998). Living in Melbourne, Australia, I am fortunate to have a partner, family, friends, colleagues, clients, and three wonderful children who inspire me in life and work.
I am a passionate environmentalist and advocate for the preservation of human rights, and find myself focussing increasingly upon the ideals of social justice and inclusion in my therapeutic practice and writing. I am also a member of Melbourne PEN, a division of the internationl organisation promoting literature, social justice and communication between, and on behalf of, writers. I decided to establish a web presence because I believe that individuals can make a difference.
When I'm not seeing clients or writing, I'm likely to be up to my elbows in compost or my ankles in mulch; the news that the ingredients in a typical North American meal travel at least 1,500 miles from spade to plate has turned me into a committed ‘locavore'. I'm spending more and more time planting heirloom vegetables, Indigenous edibles and cosseting cress in my small inner-city garden. Like an increasing number of others, I'm digging for victory – but this time around the enemy is global warming. My last few articles, on the basics - food and water - reflect this concern.
I never miss an opportunity to hear the many inspiring activists who hail from, or eventually land in, Melbourne. Their example inspires my writing and gets me out of bed to attend that rally or protest when I'd much rather snuggle down in the warmth.
Through this website, and my writing, I hope to add one more small voice to the ever-widening, dissenting global voice, and encourage others to do the same. |
